Plastics Industry Association Partners with Cyclyx, Friends of Woodland Park, and Keep Houston Beautiful for Cleanup Event

HOUSTON T.X.—The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) has partnered with CyclyxFriends of Woodland Park, and Keep Houston Beautiful to conduct a cleanup event at Woodland Park during the Association’s National Plastics Conference in Houston, Texas.

The event is a collaboration through the Community Impact Task Group of PLASTICS’ Future Leaders in Plastics Committee (FLiP)—a professional development initiative for plastics professionals under the age of 40. The task group’s mission is to foster collaboration, providing an outlet to give back and positively impact the environment and communities in which the plastics industry serves.

“PLASTICS is proud of our commitment to the communities in which we live and work, and to promoting the sustainable benefits of using plastic responsibly,” said Leslie Jutte, PLASTICS Director, Industry Engagement (Processors). “As an industry, we are dedicated to keeping plastic waste out of the environment and in the circular economy. We encourage consumers to take an active role in recycling by disposing of plastics responsibly, ensuring that more materials can be reclaimed and reused.”

Working together and utilizing logistic support and materials provided by Friends of Woodland Park, and Keep Houston Beautiful, 47 volunteers spent the afternoon removing waste from downtown Houston, collecting 51 bags total. Recyclables will be directed towards a recycling pathway by Cyclyx—a post-use plastic innovator developing solutions to unlock plastic’s recycling potential.

“Keep Houston Beautiful is proud to lead efforts that create cleaner, greener spaces for everyone to enjoy,” said Alan Steinberg, Keep Houston Beautiful Board Member and Chair of the Houston Clean City Commission. “Our community cleanups are more than just removing litter—they’re about fostering a sense of pride, enhancing our environment, and building a sustainable future. We’re excited to have the Plastics Industry Association join us in these efforts by leading a cleanup at Woodland Park as part of the Fall Sweep, a city-wide cleanup campaign running from September 11th through November 23rd. Together, we can keep our neighborhoods vibrant and resilient, one cleanup at a time.”

“Cyclyx is proud to be a part of the park cleanup organized by PLASTICS and the Friends of Woodland Park organization,” said Cyclyx’s VP of Strategic Relationships, Robert Dishman. “Our 10to90 mission focuses on creating landfill-diversion opportunities for plastic waste. It’s fantastic to see so many volunteers today, as these kinds of collaborative efforts are what Cyclyx is all about. Together, we’ll collect and remove plastic waste from this natural space. Our science-based innovations and solutions enable us to accept an all-plastic stream, which currently no other company is able to do.”

The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) is the only organization that supports the entire plastics supply chain, including Equipment Suppliers, Material Suppliers, Processors, and Recyclers, representing over one million workers in our $519 billion U.S. industry. PLASTICS advances the priorities of our members who are dedicated to investing in technologies that improve capabilities and advances in recycling and sustainability and providing essential products that allow for the protection and safety of our lives. Since 1937, PLASTICS has been working to make its members, and the eighth largest U.S. manufacturing industry, more globally competitive while supporting circularity through educational initiatives, industry-leading insights and events, convening opportunities and policy advocacy, including the largest plastics trade show in the Americas, NPE: The Plastics Show.
